Belfry Shopping Centre, Surrey

Belfry Shopping Centre, Surrey The existing glazing system was suffering from numerous points of ingress due to lack of maintenance of the years.

As such, GR3 Commercial conducted a full refurbishment program which not only rectified the issues being suffered, but also ensured that the overhead glazing remains in service and problem free long into the future.

The operation, conducted in accordance with CDM regulations, involved the stripping down of the glazing system as a whole. All existing weather seals were cut out and external cappings removed to expose the glazing bars themselves and associated drainage system. Internal weep channels were inspected and cleared where necessary. New internal primary weather seals were applied throughout, together with specialist weather tapes. All cappings were then re-instated to their correct positions, with new fixings installed where required. Finally a full water test was conducted to ensure the integrity of the glazing and a 60 month guarantee issued.

In addition to these works, GR3 Commercial were required to install a solar control film to areas of the glazing, and numerous glass replacements were carried out during the works. Followed by a full clean to all glazing and associated framework.

As there was no access equipment on site, and limited space surrounding the glazing, a bespoke access gantry was designed and constructed to carry out the works. Mobile man anchors were also employed, which are now a permanent feature of the roof, allowing safe access for all future works.
